VRILL INSIGHTS
Curate Your Environment
Goodmorning Vrillers
Apologies for missing last weeks newsletter.
I’m currently in NYC. It’s my first time back in the USA, which is where I grew up, since early 2025. Roughly 16 months.
During that time i’ve been travelling through third world countries, living in cheap places while growing Vrillerism and using the money i’ve been making from my previous freelancing editing gigs.
It’s been pretty hectic, but i’m enjoying it.
However, I feel like i’ve reached a point where the right environment is necessary if I wanna take everything im working to the next level.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned during all this time abroad is that your environment is probably the most important factor in your health, both mentally and physically, the success of your business, your creativity, and many other things.
We’ve had good months and bath months, times where i’ve felt creative and haven’t, times where I felt stressed and other weeks where I felt calm.
I would often switch between Airbnbs and hostels depending on what was necessary at the time.
Sometimes I had a quiet apartment, a good desk, a gym nearby, healthy food within walking distance, and a routine that supported my goals.
Other times I was sleeping in noisy hostels, constantly moving, working from random cafés, and living out of a backpack.
The difference was night and day.
Most people think success comes down to discipline alone.
Discipline matters, but environment determines how much discipline you need to use in the first place.
A good environment makes the right actions happen naturally.
A bad environment turns every positive habit into an uphill battle.
If you’re surrounded by unhealthy food, you’ll eat worse.
If you’re surrounded by distractions, you’ll struggle to focus.
If you’re surrounded by ambitious, creative people, you’ll naturally think bigger.
If you’re surrounded by negativity, you’ll absorb that too.
Your environment is not just the room you’re sitting in. It’s the city you live in.
The people you spend time with. The content you consume. The spaces you work in. The conversations you have.
The standards that surround you every day. How clean ur room is will effect the quality of the work you put out.
Over time, these things shape you far more than most people realize.
Looking back, nearly every major leap I’ve made in my life came after changing my environment first.
the fastest way to change your life isn’t to change yourself.
It’s to change what’s around you, which changes you in the process.
